Grain left visible
The finish shows the wood rather than burying it under stain. Each tray looks slightly different because of it, and a scratch reads as part of the surface instead of damage to it.
Carry, then leave out

The shape and finish will. The grain will not — it is wood, so the pattern, the knots and the depth of colour vary from tray to tray.
Can it go in the dishwasher?
No. Heat and prolonged water lift and split a wooden tray. Wipe it with a damp cloth, dry it off, and the finish stays where it is.
Can I put a hot teapot straight on it?
Use a mat or a trivet, as you would on any wooden surface. Heat marks in a wood finish are difficult to take back out once they are in.
