The arm leans out over the seat and the fabric drum hangs from the end of it, open at the top and the bottom. Light goes up onto the ceiling and down onto your book at the same time, which removes the dark band at eye level that an uplighter alone leaves behind.
Standing 71.7" tall with a 60" reach, it puts the shade over an armchair while the base stays back out of the way. The 17.7" drum keeps the source diffused rather than glaring.
It dims across the range, so the same lamp covers an evening of working and the low background light after dinner. The socket is a standard E27 and the LED bulb is included.
