Rice paper stretched over a frame gives the softest diffusion of any shade material. Nothing about the light is directional; the whole surface glows at an even, low intensity, the way a paper lantern does.
The form follows the Japanese paper lantern tradition, where the shade is the object and the structure disappears inside it. At 17" tall and 10.2" across it sits as easily on a dining table as on a desk, and unlit through the day it reads as a paper sculpture.
It takes a standard E27 bulb, included. Dust it with a dry cloth or a soft brush; paper does not take water.
